Key Capabilities #

  • Selective migration: Browse the report server hierarchy and choose the objects to migrate.
  • Compare with Target: Generate a CSV comparison showing Matched, Source Only, and Target Only catalog items.
  • Data source updates: Review connection strings and credentials, and optionally convert matching embedded data sources to shared data sources.
  • Folder mapping: Rename selected top-level folders and migrate their contents into the mapped target structure.
  • Subscription support: Migrate standard and data-driven subscriptions, with manual handling of file-share subscription credentials when required.
  • Command-line automation (Preview): Generate scripts for scheduled jobs, deployment scripts, or CI/CD workflows.

Common Use Cases #

  • Moving reports from development to test or production.
  • Migrating reports to a new SSRS or Power BI Report Server instance.
  • Updating reports, datasets, data sources, or subscriptions on the same server.
  • Exporting reporting assets to an SRMW file for later migration.
  • Comparing source and target catalog contents before or after a migration.
  • Running repeatable migrations through Windows Task Scheduler or deployment pipelines.

Important Notes #

  • The wizard supports SSRS Native mode. SharePoint mode is not supported.
  • Stored passwords are not returned by SSRS and may need to be entered manually.
  • The target environment must have the required permissions, connectivity, and supporting services for the items being migrated.
  • Comparison matches catalog paths; it does not detect changes inside report definitions or other item content.
